Natural Ways to Balance Blood Sugar
Do you remember that saying that “little girls were made of sugar and spice and everything nice”? Well, that may have been okay when we were 7, but, as we age we really should keep in the spice and kick out the sugar. As we get older and our hormones start to fluctuate and decline we lose the protective factors of our estrogen and progesterone. The result is increased insulin resistance. That means our body has a harder time allowing sugar to get into our cells to feed them. Our body starts to produce more insulin as a result (insulin in like the key that unlocks the door of the cell wall) and this increases inflammation in our bodies which can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure, weight gain and even some cancers.
When this problem arises, doctors tend to write out a prescription for you. But, there are so many dietary and lifestyle changes that we can make to help our bodies start to heal and become more insulin sensitive. This week’s focus is all on the natural ways that we can incorporate into our lives to help balance blood sugar.
