4 “Hows” to Lose Midlife Weight

Have you fallen into the midlife zone where you’re gaining weight and you’re frustrated because you feel like there is nothing you can do about it. You’re just over it! Good news because I actually have four tips today on what you can do to help you start losing that midlife weight (especially around the belly). 

We really do have so much within our own power to help our bodies release that midlife weight. These are four areas that you can start working on right now to ditch the weight. 

1) How You Eat

As we get older, there’s a very good chance you may need to tweak or completely change how you’re eating – even if you’re already eating healthy. If you’re gaining weight, chances are you’re diet could use some improvements. As we age, we lose lean muscle mass and our metabolism slows. It’s time to start really looking at how you’re eating. 

2) How You Move

This is about keeping our bodies functioning properly. And one of those key things is preserving muscle mass. So, I’m talking about strength training.

3) How You Sleep

Sleep is the forgotten part of the weight loss equation. And as we get older and our hormones start to fluctuate, things start to change. Stress levels escalate and our sleep gets disrupted. That will translate into more fat storage in your body. And again, more cortisol equals more belly fat. 

4) How You Handle Stress

Stress has its purpose but we don’t need it all the time. It doesn’t need to be nonstop production cortisol. Cortisol will increase belly fat. And it also has an influence on other hormones in our body that helps our metabolism work better. So, the higher levels of cortisol can actually effect production of our thyroid hormones, which is linked to metabolism. 

All four of these “hows” have one common thread and that is they all can affect what your hormonal balance. That’s the name of the game here. If you can keep your hormones in balance, you’re going to start to really optimize your health, you’re going to feel more energized, you’re going to have more joy, everything is going to start to work together like a symphony. And that’s when the belly fat is going to go away too!
